Group report for January 2010

Our planning meeting on the 13th January was not very well attended, eight of us, all from the immediate Lincoln area. It was only minus three centigrade and snowing hard! With even the main road snowed over. We had a short meeting sat by the fire in The George Hotel. Then drove carefully home. The results of the meeting are shown below. I will have printed sheets of the programme for 2010 at the next meeting.

The night reminded Dianne and myself of a drive we had in the Ruby in 1963. We drove from North Walsham in Norfolk, to Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk, in a snowstorm at night. The wiper arm fell off and was lost before we got to Norwich. We drove the rest of the way with the windscreen open with me looking through the gap.  I put on my motorcycle gear, including helmet and goggles. Dianne folded a towel into the gap on her side to keep the snow out. Next morning I took my driving test and failed it.

Please look in your sheds/ cupboards for A7 auto jumble to be auctioned at our meeting this month. Items can be donated or auctioned for you with 10% to the group. I will have a list of items we still need for the group trial car.  Work is progressing well on it, we may even have it ready for the trial in August.

There is still time to contact Neil on 01778 440897 to book for the Christmas lunch at Rippingale.

Tony Johnson is the man to contact for entry forms for the March Gravity Race, new regulations for this year but most 2009 cars will still qualify, £3 needed to enter.

Entries for the Sevens To The Sea event in April are rolling in, do remember we have a limit of 60 cars and 2009 saw us approach that number.

The talk in September is sure to be good. Jim Shortland is an acknowledged world expert on 617 Squadron and all things associated with them. The last talk he gave the Lincolnshire group was superb. Jim remembers it well; he says we were one of his best audiences ever.
