Lincolnshire August Report
August sees the BBQ as our major summer event and what a great day we had, perhaps the best ever?. 59 tickets sold and hardly a drop of rain! Richard & Jenny Moore’s garden proved to be first class and Richard had invited a few of his friends who brought along the following:-
2 vintage Motor Guzzi motorbikes
A 1913 William Foster of Lincoln Traction Engine with the first world war “Wee Willy” tank emblem above the front number plate.
Together with our fifteen Austins we had an eclectic mix of Morgan [ driven by our Austin Seven National Chairman! ], Wolsley, M.G.’s , Morris 1000, & Daimler Dart,. The committee worked hard on the morning, as usual, in order to ensure all went well. To all the members [ you know who you are! ] who contributed salads, desserts and / or raffle prizes a special thank you from me. Ian Bancroft ran the bar and Alan Cady with Paddy Malone’s help did a sterling job cooking all that ‘lovely grub’ to perfection. Brenda Johnson twisted everyones arm to buy a raffle ticket. The afternoon seemed to fly by with lots of heads under bonnets or admiring the traction engine. It was just before 5 p.m. before we started the raffle. Every year we have ‘booby’ prizes and this day was no exception, but instead of toilet rolls people won odd rolls of carpet!
We like to try and move the venue around our large county so are looking for next year’s venue in the Spalding, Boston, Grantham area. Any one willing to offer their garden and kitchen services please let me know. Rest assured all the committee will assist in ensuring it all runs smoothly.
