The June Meeting was our Cultural Visit to the medieval Bishop’s Palace in Lincoln. Despite the awful weather forecast several Austin Sevens turned up to park in Cathedral Close among the moderns. We were then entertained to a fascinating look into the past. Our guide brought the surviving stones to life with descriptions of the life and times of the elite, and not so elite, who lived and worked in the palace. The rain held off to the last ten minutes so our brollies were almost unnecessary.
Sunday the 14th saw 12 Pre-War Austin’s, 10s and Seven’s, attend the Lincoln Vintage Vehicle society Rally in Lincoln Castle. The weather was glorious, and we really enjoyed the day. BBM69 was presented with the Vincent Letall award for Best Austin on display. BBM also had this honour in 1999. This brought back fond memories of Hugh Watson, who, ‘borrowing’ the award posed in front of his lovely Box Saloon. A photograph was later published in our magazine. That BBM has driven 24,000 miles in between says a lot about Austin Sevens. “You buy a car but invest in an Austin”.
