Following on from the description of the excellent model of the American Austin Bantam van in the November PWA7 Club magazine. I would like to point out that a model based on our 1937 Austin Ruby, BBM69 has been produced.
Developed by Carl Merze of Crossway Models the car took around two years to complete. Carl took hundreds of photographs and all the dimensional information we could find from our library of Ruby books.
At each stage of the exercise we were shown the work in progress and asked to comment. We also gave Carl a list of the nine non-original external features on BBM, including the odd headlights. We had not noticed the disparity for 40 odd years, well spotted Bill Dixon. We are told that all the maroon models will have BBM69 on the number plates, what an honour. Carl took special care to depict the underside of the Ruby, as well as he could at this scale, including showing the exhaust running through the rear cross-member.
An avid collector from Europe has told Carl that in his opinion it is the best 1/43rd scale car he has seen. This is not a toy, at this scale it does have delicate parts and needs to be in a display cabinet.
